Four HSE Teams Make it to ACM ICPC Semifinals

On October 16, the quarter-finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) were held. This was the second time HSE has been the co-organizer of the event in Moscow. Over 230 teams from Moscow and its surrounding region competed, representing four universities – Higher School of Economics, Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and National University of Science and Technology.

Thirty-eight teams from five faculties competed on behalf of HSE: the Faculties of Computer Science, Mathematics, Business and Management, Humanities, and HSE MIEM, respectively.

The competition was held through the Yandex.Contest testing platform. This year, 12 algorithmic problems were prepared for a main five-hour tour. The participants had to solve five or more tasks in order to receive a certificate of achievement. The following 34 teams managed to achieve this: nine teams from HSE, 12 teams from MIPT, seven MSU teams, two MAI teams and one team each from MEPhI, MISIS and Skoltech respectively, as well as a team from St. Petersburg State University, which participated outside of the competition.

MSU students took first place, followed by MFTI students in second place. HSE teams took third and fourth places in the competition. Four HSE teams will take part in the semifinals: ‘Such Fabulous’ (Alexey Daniliuk, Polina Svyatokum and Vadim Kalashnikov), ‘Random Shuffle’ (Nikita Zetilov, Andrey Cashin and Roman Alexandrov), Not an Intern (Konstantin Khadaev, Timur Iskhakov and Vladislav Lazarev), and ‘Make ACM Great Again’ (Maxim Sabyanin, Yury Mokriy and Gleb Posobin). Furthermore, graduates of the Faculty of Computer Science’s Bachelor’s programme (Egor Burkov, Pavel Belov and Denis Karpenko) will represent the Skoltech team in the semifinals.
