HSE Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urbanism Publishes New Journal

The new academic journal is entitled ‘Urban Studies and Practices’. The first issue came out this September.  Now a call for papers for special issue on Migrants and the City has been announced. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2017.

International Laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms

The new International Laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms will open at HSE’s Faculty of Mathematics in 2017. This project, overseen by Ludmil Katzarkov (Professor at the University of Miami), won the Fifth Mega-Grants Competition of the Government of the Russian Federation.

HSE Staff Recognized for their Contribution to the Theory of Research into the Public Sector

Joint work led by David Horton Smith, Leading Research Fellow at the Centre for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector (CSCSNS) (Research and Emeritus Professor of Sociology, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, USA), and director of the Centre, Irina Mersiyanova has received the Felice Davidson Perlmutter Award for the best theoretical research work into the non-profit sector. 

Article by HSE Philologist Published in Slověne Journal

The article ‘St. Anthony of Kiev and the Earliest History of Russian Monasticism (Novitiates in Old Rus’)’ by Boris Uspensky, Head of the Laboratory of Linguo-Semiotic Studies, was published in the international journal of Slavic studies Slověne (№1 Vol.5, 2016).

HSE ISSEK Scholars Publish a Book on Foresight for Science, Technology and Innovation

In their new book, Foresight for Science, Technology and Innovation (Springer, 2016), Ian Miles, Ozcan Saritas and Alexander Sokolov introduce the term ForSTI to describe future-oriented analyses, informed by participative processes (to assess evidence, articulate possibilities, and propose actions), that are designed  to feed into STI decision-making. The future considered is usually a long-term one; the issues examined go beyond the purely technical ones; the stakeholders involved reflect the wide spectrum of experience and knowledge relevant to these issues, and the actors whose mobilisation may be required to effect change. The book was presented during recent conference Foresight and STI conference at HSE.

The ninth issue of Higher Education in Russia and Beyond, a journal that highlights current educational trends from Russia, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe, has just been published.

Kirill Levinson Receives Merck Translation Award

Kirill Levinson, Associate Professor at the HSE School of History, has received the Merck Translation Award for translating select articles from Reinhart Koselleck's Geschichtliche Grundbegriffe, published in Russian by the New Literary Observer in 2014 under the title ‘Dictionary of Basic Historical Concepts’.

International laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms

The new international laboratory 'Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms' will open at the Faculty of Mathematics of HSE in 2017. The project of Ludmil Katzarkov (Professor of the University of Miami) won the fifth Mega-grants competition of the Government of the Russian Federation. Our faculty is the only one in the country, where in 2017 will run three laboratories in fundamental mathematics, and two of them are in the framework of this global scientific program of the federal support of scientific research.

Results of the BRICS Water Forum
