World Bank—HSE University Webinar Examines the Costs of School Closures During the Covid-19 Pandemic
On May 21, the joint webinar series, ‘Education under COVID-19: Problems, Solutions, Perspectives, Research’ began with a session about the effects of school closures under the pandemic. Harry Anthony Patrinos of the World Bank presented the results of a model that he and a team of researchers developed in order to predict the extent to which the closures may reduce learning and lead to future losses in labor productivity and earnings for today’s students. The webinar was moderated by Isak Froumin (Head of the HSE Institute of Education), while Professors Tommaso Agasisti (School of Management, Politecnico di Milano) and Sergey Kosaretsky (Director, HSE Centre of General and Extracurricular Education) served as discussants.
HSE MIEM Starts Joint Project with China
Professor Lev Shchur, Academic Supervisor of the master's programme in Supercomputer Simulations in Science and Engineering, and Professor Hai-Qing Lin, Director of Beijing Computational Science Research Center (CSRC) have signed a cooperation agreement for implementing a joint research project in computational physics and high performance computing.
HSE Joins Asian STI Think Tanks Network
The Higher School of Economics joined the Asian STI Think Tanks Network at the 4th Asian Innovation Forum (Taipei (Taiwan), 9-10 July). HSE and Samsung Electronics have signed an agreement to jointly implement the ‘IoT Samsung Academy’ programme. As part of this agreement, MIEM will start teaching specialists in the Internet of Things (IoT) from September 2018.
Master’s Programme in Comparative Social Research Now Offers a Double Degree Option
HSE has signed an agreement for a double degree programme with the Free University of Berlin in Germany. The agreement encompasses the Master's programme in Comparative Social Research and its German counterpart will be the ‘East European Studies’ programme.
HSE and University of London Create a New Bachelor’s Parallel Degree Programme in Management and Digital Innovation
The first intake into the English-taught programme will be in 2018. The programme director, Sergey Efremov, gives us an insight into what students will be studying and where they can find work – not only in IT companies, but also in banks, industry and retail.
HSE Cooperation with FIFA/CIES Expands Geography
On September 22nd, 2017, graduates of the HSE/FIFA/CIES programme in sports management received their degrees. This was the third year of graduates from the programme. Thirty students of the programme studied six modules: sports management, law, marketing and sponsorship, financial management, management of sports venues and competitions, and communications. Over 70 people spoke during the courses, including Andreas Herren, former Director of Communications at FIFA, Jean-Luc Gripond, President of SportVision, a French consulting agency, Pavel Kidisyuk, Vice President of Avangard hockey club, and Mikhail Demin, CEO at NTV Plus.
