HSE Rises in U.S. News Best Global Universities Ranking

The Higher School of Economics has significantly improved its position in the U.S. News Best Global Universities subject ranking in mathematics, placing 107th this year. HSE also rose in the U.S. News Best Global Universities institutional ranking, as well as the social sciences and public health subject ranking.

International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue was established at HSE in 2017 with the purpose of showcasing the Russian philosophy, literature and art, and focusing on its universal spiritual significance for the fate of Europe and Russia. DOM.RF commissioned to the HSE ISSEK Foresight Centre an analysis of more promising technological solutions for construction of housing; the results are presented in the publication 'The Future of Housing: Best Technological Development Practices'. The report outlines how housing construction, and urban environment generally are likely to develop (including in the scope of the 'smart city' concept).

HSE Rises 50 Places in THE Social Sciences Ranking and Maintains Position in Business and Economics

HSE has improved its position in two Times Higher Education (THE) rankings compared to last year. The university demonstrated the greatest growth in the Social Sciences category, rising from the 175-200 group to 126-150. Additionally, HSE improved within the 101-125 group of the Business and Economics ranking.

HSE Comes in 37th in QS BRICS Ranking

Academic excellence projects, similar to Russia’s Project 5-100, are common in many countries, but BRICS countries typically have the largest number of universities participating in such projects. That is perhaps why the ranking of the top universities in the five BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – prepared by the QS ranking agency is of particular interest. For two years in a row, 10 Russian universities have been steadily entering the top 50 of this ranking. This time, HSE has taken 37th place, improving its result on last year.

A Foresight Project for the Southernmost BRICS Country

In 2018 the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of South Africa commissioned a national Foresight study to the ISSEK Foresight Centre. Preliminary findings will be discussed at a workshop in Pretoria on October, 18–19. Ozcan Saritas, Leading Researcher at the Foresight Centre and Deputy Head of the Research Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies, will take part in this event.

HSE Takes 6th Place in New ‘Expert’ Ranking of Entrepreneurial Universities

The new ranking of entrepreneurial universities published for the first time by the ‘Expert’ analytical centre features 38 Russian universities, 16 of which are participants in the Project 5-100. HSE took 6th place among Russian universities and 2nd place (after MIPT) among participants in the Project 5-100.

The HSE Faculty of Computer Science has launched the International Laboratory of Stochastic Algorithms and High-Dimensional Inference (HDI Lab). HSE has once again climbed the THE World University Ranking and entered the 301 – 350 range, taking 3rd place in Russia after MSU (199) and MIPT (251-300). HSE first appeared in this ranking two years ago and every subsequent year the university has consistently improved its standing.
